A coffee estate stay in the forests of Chikmagalur

Six rooms in a clearing on a forested hill, 12 km from town. Breakfast and dinner are cooked fresh here every day.

Newly opened: six rooms on a coffee estate, 1,250 m up in the Western Ghats, with breakfast and dinner cooked here, 12 km from Chikmagalur town.

Twelve kilometres out of Chikmagalur, on a hill wrapped in forest, there is a clearing with six rooms, one kitchen and a great deal of quiet.

It's a place to stay, not a resort. A main house with a tall glass gable, three A-frame suites just below it, a gazebo, a pond, and paths that run off into the coffee.

Most guests spend the day out in the hills and come back for evening tea. Mullayanagiri, the Baba Budangiri range and Hirekolale Lake are all within an hour's drive.

Estate coffee

A fresh pot, brewed from coffee grown here, while the mist is still sitting on the hill.

Before you head out

Breakfast

South Indian and Malnad breakfasts, cooked hot each morning, to set you up for a day on the ridge.

When you get back

Tea and snacks

Tea or coffee with something freshly fried or baked, on the veranda as the light goes amber.

Night

Dinner

A full home-style dinner, served warm as the evening turns cold. Then the bonfire, if you like.

Staying in for lunch?

We cook lunch to order. Give us at least two hours' notice. Lunch isn't part of the MAP rate and is billed separately.

Allergies and special diets

Tell us before you arrive and the kitchen will cook around it.

Life on the estate

There's no schedule. These are the things guests tend to do between meals.

  • A red laterite path through coffee bushes under tall shade trees

    Walk the coffee

Laterite paths run through the coffee bushes and under the silver oaks. Go early if you want the birds.

  • The drive leading out from the house under an orange sky

    Hill treks

Mullayanagiri and the Baba Budangiri ridge are under an hour away. Sunrise above the clouds is worth the 5 AM start.

  • The main house glowing at night

    Bonfire nights

When it gets cold there's a fire outside, and very little light to hide the stars.

  • Thick green forest beside the pavilion's tiled roof

    Waterfalls nearby

Hebbe, Jhari and Kalhatti falls are a short drive away, at their fullest after the monsoon.

  • Sofas and a foosball table in the glass-walled games room

    Games and books

Carrom, board games and cards for rainy afternoons and long evenings in.

  • The gazebo beside the Premium Cottage

    The pond and gazebo

A quiet spot to sit with a book and listen to the birds.
